Rachel Newton is Aldeburgh's Carnival Queen 2010
Leading the procession on Monday 16th August will be this year’s Carnival Queen Rachel Newton. For Rachel, who works in the Co-op, the knock on her door one evening asking if she would accept the role of Queen came as a great surprised and she is delighted to have been chosen. Rachel has always enjoyed the carnival but this will be her first time in the procession. Rachel who loves to shop, goes bowling each month and is about to start driving.
Rachel has asked firm friends Phoebe Hayhurst, 9 on the left , and Lily Mayhew, 8 on the right , to be her attendants. The active youngsters from Aldeburgh Primary School, whose hobbies include swimming and biking, are excited at the prospect and hope the crowds will enjoy watching them have fun over Carnival Weekend.
A new musical element for this year’s carnival will be the traditional barrel organ on the steam powered roundabout with galloping horses that will be on the sea front. On Saturday 14th August this will accompany the sideshows, lollipop hunt, tombola, silent auction and the tug of war that make up the Carnival Village on the greens beside by the Moot Hall together with the Crag Path stalls that sell an increasingly varied selection of goods.
