Emma Smith was crowned as Aldeburgh's 2009 Carnival Queen on Monday 17th August
Emma was a delightful Queen. We hope to have more Photos of her soon. Below is the notice posted when she was elected as Queen earlier in the year.
Emma Smith has been elected as Carnival Queen 2009
Nineteen year old Emma who works in the Upper Deck restaurant serving Aldeburgh Fish and Chips will start studying nursing in September. She feels that it is a great honour to be chosen as Carnival Queen and is excited about the year ahead. She enjoys walking, cycling and socialising as well as supporting Ipswich Town. Maddie and Libby first appeared in the carnival as lion cubs when they were only two. Since then they have taken part on the Brownies’ float. They will both be nine by August and are at Aldeburgh Primary School. Maddie’s hobbies include cooking and dancing, whilst the fireworks are her favourite part of the Carnival. Libby enjoys dancing, reading, swimming and football, and looks forward to eating toffee apples at Carnival time.
These three girls have the world at their feet as they look forward to Carnival Day on Monday 17th August. Emma Smith has been elected as Carnival Queen and has chosen cousins Maddie Buzzard and Libby Potter to be her attendants. The theme for this year’s carnival is Around the World so the possibilities for decorating floats are endless. From the Gherkin in London to the Taj Mahal in India; from Sydney Opera House to African Safari Lodges and too many others to mention…. the girls have no idea how their float is being secretly decorated. They hope the imaginations of all those taking part in the procession and decorating their houses and shops will run wild this August.

Abby Saint was our Fairy Tale Carnival Queen in 2008
Following the innovation of public nominations, the Committee were pleased to announce that they had elected Abby Saint to preside over a fairy tale carnival. Both Abby and her attendants were following in family footsteps. Abby’s aunt and great aunt were carnival queens, and it was her grandmother who suggested that she should be nominated. Though a bit wary at first, the idea grew on Abby as she began looking forward to August in excited anticipation. Abby, who was an attendant in 2000, was studying the performing arts at Ipswich College. Her great love is singing and dancing and she hopes to have a successful career on the stage. She would like to travel, possibly putting her talent to work on a cruise ship. Abby chose sisters Chloe and Amy Fryer to attend her. 10 year old Chloe was at Leiston Middle School, whilst 8 year old Amy went to Aldeburgh Primary School. Both girls enjoy horse riding and tap dancing, as well as a spot of gardening. They both looked forward to having fun on carnival day, following in the footsteps of their mother who was an attendant in 1989. Can you tell where this photo was taken? We tried to find a fairy tale castle located in Aldeburgh, and think we managed to find a spot that looks the part –well in this close anyway.
